Penn State STEM Open House: The Penn State College of Engineering, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and Eberly College of Science would like to invite underrepresented junior and senior undergraduates interested in graduate school to visit the Penn State University Park campus. Students with a strong academic record and research background will be invited to campus to learn about research opportunities and graduate education at Penn State. The Penn State STEM Open House will begin on the afternoon of Thursday, September 11th and will end with breakfast on Sunday, September 14th. Students selected for the program will be diverse U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents who are potential candidates for our STEM graduate programs.  All selected participants will be provided with meals, hotel accommodations, and transportation to and from the program. UPOP: UPOP provides hundreds of MIT sophomores with professional development training and access to top summer internships through its yearlong co-curricular program. As an experiential learning program, UPOP is designed to work in conjunction with existing academic coursework and concludes in a practicum experience during the summer, typically an industry internship.  In addition to the aspects of the yearlong program, which include one to one and group coaching, workshops, industry speaker events, and networking opportunities, the cornerstone of the program is UPOP's week-long professional development course, which is offered twice over IAP.  The dates this coming academic year are Session I: Monday, January 12, 2014 to Friday 16, 2014, 9AM to 5PM daily and Session II: Monday, January 26, 2014 to Friday, January 30, 2014 9AM to 5PM daily. Please join us for pizza at our informational sessions on Wednesday, September 17 in 1-190 at 5:30PM and Monday, September 22 in 1-190 at 5:30PM and 7:30PM. Note: Students of all majors are welcome to participate in UPOP, and it is compatible with participation in MISTI, PSC, UROP and similar programs.

Prehealth Registration: Thinking about applying to a medical/health profession school for fall 2016 entry? Anyone who is considering applying for fall 2016 entry to a medical/health profession school must participate in a Prehealth Registration meeting prior to November 1, 2014. Prehealth Advising is available to meet with you over the summer and meetings can be held in person, via Skype, or over the phone. Please note that we recently relocated to E39. During a Prehealth Registration Meeting you will review your Prehealth Registration Question responses, discuss your reasoning for pursuing a career in the health professions, identify areas of your application to bolster and suggest tangible next steps for improvement, and select the application cycle that best ensures your chance for successful admission. AWIS: Attention Students: You have a free membership with AWIS! MIT is an institutional partner of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS). FOCUS100 Conference: You are invited to attend digitalundivided's FOCUS100 2014 conference on Oct 3rd - Oct 4th in New York City! Every October, digitalundivided brings together a community of urban tech companies - a majority of which are led by women of color - and innovative organizations like Facebook, Google, Tumblr with Top investors from firms like Andreesen Horowitz, Comcast Ventures, and Techstars for "the most diverse tech conference on the planet."
