Become a TSR^2 Facilitator!

SPRING AY21 UPDATE:

ALL TSR^2 SERVICES WILL CONTINUE TO BE VIRTUAL

Enjoy helping and teaching others? Apply to join the TSR^2 as a Facilitator (FA)!

The Talented Scholars Resource Room (TSR^2) located in 16-159 provides support and resources to MIT students in virtually any subject with a focus on first year GIR’s. The sessions are run by Facilitators (FAs)- advanced upperclassmen and graduate students that are committed to and enjoy teaching and supporting a diverse population of MIT students. The services provided by TSR^2 FA’s include the following:

  • One-on-One Sessions

Students can book a 1hr one-on-one appointment with a facilitator in the subject of their choosing through the online TSR^2 scheduling system. All facilitators are required to have two, hour-long one-on-ones available every week.

  • Facilitated Study Groups

Students can request to join a weekly study group facilitated by one of our FAs in a variety of subjects. Study groups are kept small (3-6 students) and meet twice a week for 1hr through the term. Facilitators and students decide on session times and meet in a designated MIT classroom. Study groups are flexible and can start anytime before drop date. Note: The compensation for this service is $17/hr for undergraduate FA and $19/hr for graduate FAs.

  • P-Set Nights

These consist of weekly 4 hour drop-in sessions lead by FA’s in the TSR^2 (16-159).  Each night’s session focuses on a specific subject which can be viewed in the  semester P-Set Night schedule found hereTypically P-Set Nights are for Biology, Chemistry, Math and Physics GIRs.

  • Exam Reviews

FA’s lead exam reviews in a selection of subjects (mainly GIR’s) throughout each semester. These reviews are advertised through our mailing list and TSR^2 calendar and  take place 24-48 hours before the exam itself.

TSR^2 FA’s are expected to work a minimum of 4 hours each week including 2hrs of Pset Night and/or leading a Facilitated Study group and 2hrs of availability for one-on-ones. In addition, FA’s should:

  • Have excellent communication and teaching skills
  • MIT graduate student or MIT undergraduate who has earned an A (or ASE'd) the course interested in teaching
  • Have excellent levels of responsibility, reliability and punctuality
  • Exhibit appropriate and professional behavior at all times

The salary for undergraduate TSR^2 FA’s is $16/hour and is $18/hour for graduate TSR^2 FA’s.

NOTE: Unfortunately we are not able to employ international or non-registered graduate students. Note that working as a TSR^2 facilitator does not fullfil any departamental TAship requirement.
