Tell me about your first encounter with MIT’s OME Office?
While I didn’t realize it at the time, my first encounter with the OME was the summer of my junior year at the infamous MITES vs Interphase challenge. And yes, my team swept both times I played and the one time I coached.

What were your initial impressions?
Since my first experience with the OME was when I was a rival MITES student, my first impression of them was that they needed to go down.

Did those impressions change over time?
When I participated in Interphase as a scholar my impression changed drastically.

What programs did you take part in, and how were they helpful?
So far, I have participated in Interphase as a scholar and a facilitator as well as Seminar XL and TSR exam review sessions. As a scholar, Interphase gave me a taste of an MIT curriculum and exposed us to student life. Not having had AP classes in my high school, doing well in interphase gave me the confidence that I needed in order to be successful at MIT. We were also introduced to campus resources and helped us build our network through faculty and Alumni Luncheons. Knowing the campus and knowing the people definitely made the transition to college easier as I did not feel like a stranger on campus.

Seminar XL was also the best decision I could have made my freshman spring. My TA was the coolest person and pushed me to learn 5.12. I slacked the first half of the semester and was not on track to do well in the class. However, my awesome Seminar XL TA helped me turn it around. Seminar XL helped me study hard and although everyone said that my target grade was out of reach, I ended up reaching it.

What was your most memorable or valuable experience with OME?
My most valuable experience with the OME was when I got the chance to be on the other side of the Interphase program as a residential facilitator. It encouraged my professional development, challenged me to grow as a thinker, allowed me to give back to the program, and gave me a great summer with amazing rising MIT freshmen.

If you had to describe OME with one word, what would it be?

What would you want others to know about OME?
I would like everyone to know that the OME is open to anyone and it offers more programs than just Interphase EDGE.

What are the OME’s best features/resources?
My favorite features of the OME are how welcoming the community is and how avid they are in keeping up with us. The OME office is conveniently located on the Infinite and even if you have business to attend to at the OME, Somiya is there to chat for a bit and there will more likely than not be a light snack, if not left overs, for you to indulge in. The OME is a family and family is always there each other.

If you had to pick one book or comic to take with you to a deserted island, what would it be?
