Her nominator writes:
Over the past four years, Kordell has had a pivotal role in the MIT Women’s Basketball program. Beginning her freshman year, she was made starting point guard and never looked back. In her first year, she led the team in scoring, assists and steals and these same numbers ranked among the top 15 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Mari became only the third player in MIT Women’s basketball program history to be named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and she was also named to the NEWMAC second team all-conference. Kordell continued her high level of play during her sophomore year by again leading the MIT team in scoring and assists and earning the respect of teams throughout the NEWMAC. In her junior year, she was named as one of the team’s Captains, was again named to the NEWMAC second team all-conference and helped MIT Women’s Basketball return to the playoffs for the first time since 2008. In her senior year, Mari was again named one of the team’s Captains and battling through injuries, helped the Engineers make back-to-back NEWMAC playoff appearances. With her senior season complete, Mari looks to graduate this spring with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering and begin working full time for L’Oréal in the summer. Mari has been a passionate leader of a team that has undergone tremendous change in the past four seasons. She has had an influential hand in the strong foundation that has the team poised for continued success. Mari’s accolades, drive and commitment to the MIT Women’s Basketball team has distinguished our Interphase family member during her time here.
