Who is OME
- November 2014
Rachel Reed '16 - Mechanical Engineering
MIT Prestigious Fellows
Her nominator writes:
Rachel recently received a highly competitive leadership and professional development fellowship for a select group of students from top-tier universities in the United States. The Lime Connect Fellowship is focused around diversity and is for high achieving students with disabilities. Out of the hundreds that applied, forty students were then chosen as finalists to participate in four rounds of interviews in New York City, after which 20 students were chosen as the 2014 fellows and attend a week long symposium in NYC. It is sponsored by Bloomberg, IBM, Google, Goldman Sachs, Target, and Pepsi Co.
Rachel is never shy about breaking stereotypes by sharing her disability and family background. In her second year as a TA for 18.01, she has constantly proved that students, no matter their circumstances, can truly rise above and accomplish great things. Rachel is highly dedicated to the OME and continuously mentors students from similar backgrounds. For these reasons, and more, I cannot think of a person more deserving of this award.
