Elizabeth is a senior at MIT studying Earth, Atmospheric, & Planetary Sciences. During her time at MIT, Elizabeth has shown a noteworthy commitment to global studies. In the winter of 2015, she earned the Li & Fung scholarship, awarded to motivated MIT students, to travel to Berlin and study the German language and culture through Wellesley’s Winter Session in Berlin. The following year, she worked with MISTI’s Global Teaching Labs to travel to Lübeck to give lessons in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, and Business English. While there, Elizabeth lived with a host family and learned more about German politics and society in the wake of the European refugee crisis. Most recently, she received the Tang Scholarship, awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student, to complete a research internship in atmospheric chemistry at the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) in Leipzig through the German Academic Exchange Service Research Internships in Science and Engineering Program (DAAD RISE). While in Europe, she also collaborated with other MIT students, as well as ETH graduate students and an ETH professor during the student session think tank as part of the MIT-ETH Energy Symposium at ETH-Zürich University. In the future, Elizabeth would like to continue studying German, French, and later Arabic, with the possibility of working abroad long-term. At MIT, Elizabeth is a member of Laureates and Leaders and plans to pursue a Ph.D. after graduation.
