I've never designed anything before.  Who will help me?

You can still participate. Each team is assigned a Teaching Assistant. Momentum Teaching Assistants are upperclass or graduate students with design experience who will help guide their teams through the process.

What majors is this open to?

Momentum is open to students from all majors.

How much of a time commitment is Momentum?

Momentum is a 6 unit course and has a substantial time commitment. We recommend you remain within the 12 units allowed over an IAP and also limit extracurricular involvement during this time. Momentum is a very intense, yet rewarding, experience. It is not uncommon for student teams to meet for several hours daily to work toward a completed prototype. There are mandatory lectures each day during the first week of the course and professional development workshops/guest speakers are common during weeks 2-4 (students are provided a calendar for the course at the beginning of the first week). The course culminates with group presentations to our corporate sponsors. The week leading up to the presentations is extra time intensive as students prepare their prototypes and put the finishing touches on their presentations.

Do I get to choose my own team?

No.  Momentum staff assign students to teams based on a skills questionnaire.

How do I apply?

The Momentum 2019 application will be open from September 17 to November 2, 2018. Space is available on a first come first basis and we look for 25-30 interested students. As part of the process students submit a resume.

Why do I have to submit a resume?

Students submit a resume that is reviewed by the Career Advising and Professional Development Office.  The finalized resumes are sent to our corporate sponsors as a packet.  Corporate sponsors review resumes and select students for interviews for summer internships depending on if there is a match.

Am I guaranteed an internship with a corporate partner?

No.  Students are provided with networking opportunities and their resumes are submitted to the corporate sponsors.  Internship placement is dependent on the corporate sponsors' needs and availability.
