Who is OME

Tell me about your first encounter with MIT’s OME Office?

My first encounter with the MIT OME office was a call from Carolina Lopez-Trevino. Or maybe it was when I did WISE. I may have had a session with them.

What were your initial impressions?

“OK, this is the minority office at this school. I guess I’ll be in contact with them at times as I’m a minority.”

Did those impressions change over time?

I first encountered the OME during the summer of 2014 while participating in Interphase EDGE. This was a great experience overall and it established my connection to the OME Office.

What were your initial impressions?

I thought that the OME staff was down to earth and pretty easy to get along with. Also they were always willing to give me food, so that’s a huge plus.

After accepting my offer as an IP14 scholar, the OME’s office became a second home. My first encounter with many of the OME faculty was calming. They referred to me by my first name and proceeded to ask me about my time on campus so far. Everyone was unrealistically helpful and made sure any of my questions were answered.

While I didn’t realize it at the time, my first encounter with the OME was the summer of my junior year at the infamous MITES vs Interphase challenge. And yes, my team swept both times I played and the one time I coached.

What were your initial impressions?
Since my first experience with the OME was when I was a rival MITES student, my first impression of them was that they needed to go down.

My first encounter with the OME was when I met with Dean Tammy Stevens (at the 2015 Ebony Affair). She talked to me about what the OME does and how its mission is to help students of all backgrounds. She talked to us about Interphase.

My first encounter with the OME Office was through my Interphase EDGE experience. We learned about the office itself, the people that were there to help us, and the types of resources available. I didn’t really think much of it at first.
