Evelyn Zuñiga

Evelyn graduated in June 2013 from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Tell us about your first encounter with MIT's OME Office?
My first encounter with the MIT OME office was actually a dinner hosted by the OME over Campus Preview Weekend.
 
What were your initial impressions?
My initial impression was that the OME is very involved with the undergraduate student body, and because I met the OME staff even before I was officially an MIT student, it made me feel like the OME really invests in new students as well as current undergraduates.

Did those impressions change over time?
Those impressions stayed the same, however, I came to realize how much more the OME provides in terms of resources and opportunities for students as I participated in the Interphase and Laureates and Leaders programs.
 
What programs did you take part in, and how were they helpful?
I participated in Interphase summer of 2009 and the Laureates and Leaders program. Interphase really helped with my transition from high school to MIT, and the Laureates and Leaders program was extremely helpful in allowing me to form faculty connections and have resources for the graduate school application process.

What was your most memorable or valuable experience with OME?
I believe my most memorable experience had to be the Interphase program: It allowed me not only to grow academically but to meet tons of other students in my year, many of which I've kept in touch with over the past two years.

If you had to describe OME with one word, what would it be?
Involved.

What would you want others to know about OME?
I would like other people to know about the resources the OME provides and the opportunities the OME brings to the table, not only culturally but academically and professionally.
