Their nominator writes:
This past year, Amelia, with the MIT Asian American Initiative, has been a demonstrative force in the Asian American community. After the shooting of six Asian American women in the greater Atlanta area, Amelia was a part of the Asian American community that planned an ad-hoc memorial site featuring images of the victims. Further, she also helped create student discussion spaces after the attack with a coalition of pan-Asian clubs and an MIT-wide space with the ICEO and OMP. Over Asian American Heritage month in May, Amelia spoke as a panelist at the “Asian American Visibility and Intersectionality at MIT'' event with faculty from the History Section and staff from the ICEO. Through this work, Amelia has served as point person for AAI applying for and winning the OMESAC group of the year award.
Besides her commitment to the Asian American community, Amelia has worked for the past two years with LBGTQ+ Services and more recently with Women’s and Gender Studies. In the past, Amelia has written and published the monthly LBGTQ+ newsletter for the academic year 2020-2021, redesigned the LBGTQ+ Services website, and designed LBGTQ+ Services social media. Amelia has brought an intersectional approach to her LBGTQ+ advocacy including doing a series on disabled LBGTQ+ activists and LBGTQ+ scientists and researchers.
