Sonia Kekeh
Demonstrating MIT Spirit has been central to Sonia’s experience at MIT, as she has continually sought ways to contribute to and strengthen MIT’s vibrant community. One highlight was during Campus Preview Weekend, when she proudly took on the role of Tim the Beaver. As Tim, she had the unique opportunity to embody the excitement and energy of MIT, engaging with prospective students and showing them the welcoming, inclusive environment that defines MIT’s campus. Beyond that, Sonia serves as a residential peer mentor for Baker House, where she works closely with students, graduate resident advisors, and the house team to foster a supportive and engaging living community. This role allows Sonia to guide first-years, helping them navigate academic and social challenges, and build meaningful connections that strengthen her residence hall’s sense of family. Additionally, as the secretary of the Black Students’ Union, Sonia helps create a platform for students of color to express their voices and be heard within the institution. Through organizing events, coordinating discussions, and collaborating with other student organizations, she contributes to making MIT a livelier community. In addition to these roles, her involvement in a variety of clubs, events, and conferences further demonstrates her commitment to MIT Spirit. Whether attending student-led initiatives, organizing workshops, or representing MIT at conferences, she continuously seeks opportunities to foster connections and enhance the sense of inclusion within MIT’s diverse community. By participating in these activities, she helps contribute to the culture of collaboration and innovation that makes MIT such a special place. These experiences reflect her dedication to making MIT not just a place of learning, but a home where every student feels they belong.
