The Standard

The Standard is a program designed to holistically support the academic, personal, and professional success of MIT's undergraduate men of color. First-year students apply in the spring semester and remain with the program until graduation.

MIT men of color who are sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, or post-docs can apply to serve as a Peer Mentor!
The Peer Mentor application will be open until Monday, February 12, 2018.

Benefits of joining The Standard:

  • Access to mentors, including upperclass MIT students and local alumni
  • Financial subsidies to help with costs of professional development (conferences, etc.) and graduate school preparation (application fees, GRE registration fees, etc.)
  • Workshops and guest lectures on relevant topics, including professional development, life skills, and financial literacy
  • Social outings, dinners, fun events


Responsibilities of The Standard cohort include:

  • Interest and participation in creating a diverse community built on foundations of respect and openness
  • Maintenance of a competitive GPA and evidence of academic progression
  • Remaining in the program until graduation
  • Attend workshops, lectures, etc.
  • Remain in contact with program staff
